Patrick Olmsted

K. Patrick Olmsted is a retired educator who specializes in wildlife and nature photography. Originally from northern Illinois, he currently resides in the mountains just north of Dahlonega, Georgia. He retired eight years ago and took up photography as a way to get out and enjoy nature.

His philosophy is simple, in order to take great wildlife photos, one must be willing to seek out those places that offer the most opportunities. Every day provides the possibility to photograph and be out in nature taking advantage of every moment. He attributes his love of wildlife and nature to his involvement in the Boy Scouts when he was a youth.

In retirement, he has traveled to 49 of the 50 states. His annual road trip adventures have provided him with many opportunities to enhance his photography skills. He seeks out remote places in the hopes of finding unique photos to share.
Olmsted is honored to have his work represented in the 2023-2024 ā€˜Natures Generosity’ Traveling Exhibition presented by the Wilderness Photography Foundation. His photo in this exhibition was shot handheld near Lakeland, Florida at Circle B Bar Reserve.

His work has appeared on the cover of Mountain Traveler magazine, on National Wildlife Federation greeting cards, and two of his photos received Honorable Mention in an art show at the Bowen Center for the Arts in Dawsonville, Georgia. In 2022 he received an Honorable Mention for a submission to the National Wildlife Federation. In March of 2023 his photo took first place in the Bird Photo Contest at the Elachee Nature Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

He is an active member of the Cobb County Photographic Society, Bowen Center for the Arts, and Professional Photographers of America. A few of his framed photos are on display and available for purchase at Wolf Mountain Vineyards and Winery near Dahlonega, Georgia. Additional photos can be viewed on his Facebook page and website.
